DOC: Journey to the 100 Man Fight

100_Man_Fight___Official_Trailer__1_on_Vimeo.0

This documentary details the training of Judd Reid in the build up to his 100 man full contact Kumite fight in Japan. The DVD also includes highlights from the actual Kumite through to the end and what happened afterwards.

The DVD itself is a bit pricey but I can understand why and it take a little while to arrive – but there is a cheaper down load option available if you’d prefer. There are no other extra features. This isn’t a big release. The quality is good but doesn’t have the slickness you’d find on modern documentaries. Saying that, it doesn’t need it. The training is gritty and intense and just watching Judds prep was making me tired. He is a driven and fascinating guy and I wanted to go training after seeing this DVD. The footage includes interview of people he’s trained with and masters.

I must admit I was relieved that it actually showed the Kumite itself. If it had cut out as he’d entered, I would have felt cheated. I have heard about the 100 man Kumite many times and it was good to see that it was actually real. I don’t recall any other footage showing this event. The opponents still go in full force right at the end and they go up in skill like a computer game!

I really enjoyed watching this but think it was a bit pricey for what you get.
